I got MRSA 7 years ago. This site amazed me. I get very tired and the pain at times in my legs arms and hands is unbearable at times, and getting worse all the time. I have never spoken to anyone effected like this and found the comments very interesting.
It really gets you down dealing with this every day.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I have to agree with your Margaret, I had MRSA pnemunia last February (2008), had major surgery due to the MRSA with part of my lung removed. I contracted MRSA from my Mom in of all places a morgue (she had been diagnosed with MRSA prior to her death, and the hospital had some issues in the morgue, so went to see the body. no one told me to take precautions, or be tested after I left. My pneumonia started as the flu and ended up full blown MRSA pneumnia. Never being sick prior to this, I'm not used to feeling so tired. I live in NYC where you walk everywhere, after a day of walking my legs are so painful and tired and I generally fall asleep once I sit down. I still have trouble breathing and have pain at the incision site. (all healed though) This is all new and different and I had a feeling these symptoms were left over from the MRSA. We are now dealing with swine flu in my area - I've never been afraid of any new disease, but I have to admit I'm quite scared now. Thanks for all of your posts, I hate to admit it but it does make me feel better that I'm not crazy or just "getting old" (I'm 53) as everyone keeps telling me!! (

I was diagnosed with having staph in the beginning of April. I got the staph infection from my job. When I got the infection, the dr put me on the wrong medication. I kept on getting worse. I almost committed suicide at the end of April. I went into my dr and to the ER numerous times. They blew me off and said that I has having an anxiety attack. Finally at the end of May I finally was diagnosed with MRSA through all of this I have lost my kids,my job,and friends. I will have to agree that my life will never be the same again. Im still having bad and good days. I still have a loss of appetite and i feel tired all of the time. I AM A SINGLE MOM OF 3. MRSA almost left my kids without a mom.

8 years after first contracting MRSA I still have a small open wound and still suffer extreme tiredness. All the doctors say about the tiredness is that I must expect this as I'm getting older (nearly 60). Nobody listens to me!

I contracted MRSA without being in a hospital, Dr.s office or any medical community. I work at a State Park where thousands of people pass through daily. My face swelled up at first. Then I couldn't breathe. I was rushed to a hospital and put in Isolation for one week.
Then the doctors sent me home so "you don't die here". Christmas eve.
I spent 6 weeks at home on an I.V. fighting for my life. The MRSA was in my internal organs. It damaged my heart, kidneys, liver and who knows what else. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I still have problems with lack of energy. Yes you can survive after MRSA but you haave to want to. Don't give up or accept what the Dr. says without question. I believe God has a day to die for everyone. So if the Good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise you can get over any affliction if you set your mind to it.

Everyone is not crazy.I too have been suffering tremendously with after effects with MRSA. I was a multitasker and got up at 6am and went to bed 11:30pm. Now I am fatigued after any thing as simple as washing dishes or going to get groceries. I nap several times a day on weekends and drag during the weekday at work only to come home and want to go straight to bed. I have headaches and have had bowel problems from all the IV antibiotics.I feel like anytime I start to feel slightly better its only to get another lesion. Now I am afraid of going to outings and touching anything and scour myself down twice a day.I feel like Meryl Streep in Silkwood. Its not in my head either. I wish it was that simple. My life has changed so much and I am running out of antibiotics that will fight this.My IDC even gave me a prescription for me to fill and carry on me at all times incase I start to get a lesion and can't get to see them in time. They know that I know when I need it.God help us all!

Me Ė since my spine and foot operation last summer July 2nd 2008 Ė after contracting the superbug MRSA, which led to Septicaemia, plus then catching the other superbug C. Diff.

Back pain is worse than ever, even more severe. I am having to take strong painkillers. Increased pain in legs too, and general pain and aches all over body. Since then, I am constantly tired and can sleep all the time. Even the smallest of activities can really tire me out. I spend hours in bed, more than a 22 year old should! I do my very best to push myself to get up and do things. But sometimes it is just impossible. Iím trying to hard to fight it and to cope with it; relaxation, meditation, mindfulness!
I have a lot of headaches and also get a lot of sickness and nausea.
I feel physically unwell all the time. I try and push myself through it and ignore it. It doesnít go away!
Iíve never been like this in my entire life. All this has been since the last operations and the two superbugs I caught!

I am doing a paper on mrsa. I am a college student and I have worked in the medical field with people whom have mrsa. I have seen alot of people die from the infection. I am hoping that more people take a interest in this infection and that more research will go towards curing the after effects of this disease. To everyone whom has this or has had it I keep you in my prayers that one day soon you will be back to a norm. Feel well and take care!

I got MRSA in Jan after surgery. I was hospitalized with IV antibiotics for two and half weeks and spent a total of 6 weeks in hospital. I have been home recovering for 10 weeks now and am so exhausted I can't stay awake all day. Household chores are so far behind and yard work is nearly out of the question. I was hoping I would find someone who has found a way to recover energy. PS My lymph glands are still swollen.

My wife had surgery last year after it was over she started getting boils on her skin which would break open and leave holes in her skin. She went to our doctor who is part of the hospital staff were she had the surgery. They ran tests and they called my wife and told her she had a mild abcess and not to be concerned.well my wife cut her hand and went back to the same hospital to get stitches and asked the doctor on duty to look at the boils . they wouldnt.I noticed in the last few months my wife had little or no energy.i also noticed i was starting to feel the same way joint pain headaches. 2 weeks ago i was out of town and i noticed i was getting one of those boils on my privates. well by the time i got home saturday i couldnt walk ,high fever, and my privates were swollen.I went to the er they tried to tell me it was from sex .i freaked i told the doctor that my wife and i had been together since hs and they needed to check for mrsa. he said why and i told him about my wifes problems so reluctantly they did It came back positive for msra. so i made my wifego to the er and after fighting with these people for 45 minutes they did the tests on her.IT CAME BACK POSITIVE my situation now is this has been running threw my wifes body for at least 9 months and im not sure with myself. is it to late? noone not even our doctor will tell us anything

I had a hysterectomy on Feb. 4, 2009, had infection, hospital wouldn't give me antibiotics even though I have a low immune system from other health issues, went to ER 1 wk later after staples were out (told by a friend later NEVER get staples as high infection rate)wound was packed & had nurses in 2x day to swab & pack ,had blood tests & swab of wound on FEb. 24,revealed E.Coli basilli & other bacteria. allergic to most antibiotics so just swab & packing(tunneling in 2 directions) continued, early March had another culture done & MRSA showed up. Nurses until may 24 until wound closed up. Now very deep depression where wound opening was & outside still slightly red. Within a week after wound closed up got a headache so severe thought head was going to pop off (even though i have normally low blood pressure), one day my body flopped as no energy and got dizzy, nauseous, flung myself on couch as felt like i was going to faint then had approx.1/4" of sweat on body, heart racing, severe pressure in middle of chest where I had hard time catching breath (I couldn't lie flat or on side as cut off oxygen..lasted for over 3 wks) I still feel slight pressure in centre of chest & sore when pressed. My energy is more depleted than ever. I ache normally so now more pronounced. My vision has deteriorated since the headaches started (were daily for over 1 month..now every couple of days). I was prescribed anitbiotics prior to the Feb. 24 blood test but nothing works obviously. My Vit. D is also down, ect so have been taking 2000mcg a day.
Can MRSA still be active in my body as only found it in wound, as not in blood prior to wound closing up?
Now my neck spasms to the point where I can barely move it without pain & then only slightly.
Are there any herbal remedies to get this body back in order?
Oh, The blood tests showed e-coli 3 wks after leaving hospital so i reported it to health canada as i am sure surgeon didin't. I think I got the infection from the equipment not being properly sterilized as my surgeon is very thorough in cleaning me out after as had partial 1 1/2yrs before. I now have on all my health files NO STAPLES only sutures allowed.

what a relief to find that my post mrsa experiences of fatigue and aches isn't all in my head! I too had an infection post op in /feb 08. Tests at the time showed e-coli. No one mentioned the mrsa until I ended up in hospital again a year later and only after asking (finally) the 'right' question did I get the information about having contracted mrsa.

SHE IS 78 YEARS OLD AND MADE IT THROUGH THIS TERRIBLE STAPH INFECTION. NOW IT HAS LEFT HER WITH SCAR TISSUE AND LUNG DAMAGE ON THE INFECTED LUNG. THEY DON'T KNOW JUST HOW MUCH DAMAGE SHE HAS BUT WILL BE MORE APT TO TELL AS THE INFECTION LEAVES THE LUNG COMPLETELY. SHE IS SHORT OF BREATH STILL YET BUT HER ENERGY IS COMING BACK. SHE LOST 20 LBS IN JUST 3 SHORT WEEKS. NOW SHE IS EATING AGAIN. I BELIEVE IT WAS HER ANTIBIOTICS THAT MADE HER LOST HER APPETITE. JUST THOUGHT I'D HELP SOMEONE OUT WITH THIS INFO. ANY QUESTIONS? hello everyone... I have mrsa in a wound following an op (its in the surgical wound) I was given a course of Doxycycline oral and some bactroban cream for the wound. I was left 5 days after a 5 day course of each and then reswabbed..Im on here today looking for info as my doctors of so just spoke to mr pot luck !.. who said there is a multible of bugs pres one of them being mrsa..It was suggested I now take a course of Fucidin.however what I am unclear about is hes told me as it is in my wound when that heals (it seems to be at long last)I will be clear..Is this true? it just seems a bit odd to me how you can have it (although it is just the wound that has been swabbed) but once the skin has grown over the top of it, it seals it or whatever else in and thats the end of it. Does any body know how it works Im not at all knowledgable on this mine field of a subject.

many thanks

Left a previous comment earlier saying about my situation. I had a spine and foot operation, and contracted mrsa, which got into my blood, i was told from my central line and had septacemia. At the same time, i also caught c diff. I spent 3 months in hospital.
I havent been the same since, lots of pain, always tired, always sleeping, headaches, feeling sick and sometimes being sick, and still no appeite back!
Its common for mrsa to be on your skin, 1 in 3 people have it, but when it gets in your blood it can be fatal. I feel so lucky to be here!

I am a 34 year old active woman who contacted septic MRSA from an unknown source. Prior to contacting MRSA i ran 5 miles 3-4 days a week. I have run half-marathons and was preparing to run my first full marathon in may 2009. In jan of this year i had begun training. I have my suspects of how i actually became infected with MRSA but because it is so prevalent in our society no one can pin-point it. I went to the dentist on jan 5th in the morning for a routine cleaning. I left the dentist and went for a 5-mile run outdoors. That very same night i became very ill. The next day I had severe back pain and fever of 103. What I want to say about MRSA is that it is very scary. I was a healthy, active person with no medical problems. I was diagnosed with septic MRSA it was found in my heart, lungs and spine. I have been on antibiotics for 7 months, Vancomycin, Daptomycin, Zyvox, and now on Batrim. One thing I learned being in the hospital is you absolutely MUST be your own advocate. Because i was young, fit, no medical problems, didn't use the gym, and had no open sores they assumed i was a I.V. drug user or had HIV. I knew i wasn't a drug user and while i am in a monogamous relationship they had me frightened to death that i had HIV. When the test can back negatuve for HIV they stopped trying to figure out where i possibly got it from. I was in the hospital in extreme pain. I left the hospital with a PICC line and oxycodone that did NOT come close to addressing the pain that i had in my back. I had to get a biopsy of my spine (that came back neg-yes!!!) My belief is that I went to the dentist and 13 hours later i was sick.i probably contracted it from the office somehow. Anyhow I am tired of taking antibiotics. 2 vertebrae were damaged in my spine so I no longer run and my back aches everyday. In spite of all this I am here to tell you that I believe as with anything in life your outlook greatly affects your body. I try to remain positive. I still workout but i walk and now because i can't run.I use a gym to use equipment such as the eliptical, and the weight machines. While my back aches daily, i rarely have pain that warrants me to take medicine. There are some things i can't do that i used to do like run, lay in a bed comfortably, push-ups and some other types of exercises that cause pain in my back. What i can say is that I am thankful to be alive for my 3 children and my family, friends and myself. This has made me realize that life is very fragile. Be an advocate for yourself. DOctors are human and yes they have knowledge that we don't have but they also play by trial and error.Someone on this site made a point about the medications.I know for a fact that these newer ones such as Vancomycin and Daptomycin very little is known about them, my Dr. even told me this herself but when faced with life and death what other choice do we have? I wish everyone on here the best and may your recovery be short and permanent.God Bless
