MSSA and Pseudomonas Infection

Has anyone had a pseudomonas and mssa infection? I have just come off of antibiotics after 7 months and have no idea how long it will be before I will be declared free from infection. I would also like to know how open wounds are covered after they have settled down (I have one on my forehead) and if the chances of re-infection are higher now when I go for the re-infection. My wound is on my forehead and the titanium plate and bone graft have been left in place. At this stage I am not sure whether they will remove them both or just do some cover up surgery. www.bugsdrugsandrocknroll.com

Sorry, I would also like to know if Flucloxacillin did not work on any other MSSA infection as it did not work for me - I have been through about 8 different antibiotics.

Hi there Linda, Sorry I thought that I had anwered twice and didn't notice your reply. I have been on many antibiotics since I got an infection after surgery in August last year. These include Clindamycin, Ciprofloxacillin, Rifampicin, Metronidazole and Flucloxacillin. I have been free of antibiotics for the past 3 weeks but the infection stopped the bone graft in my forehead from working and I also have an open wound around the size of a 2 pence piece which exposes the bone. I was swabbed before surgery and MRSA clear.

I will need another operation to reconstruct my forehead and replace the dead bone but am so scared of the chance of re-infection.

I would also like to know if perhaps I had MRSA but they did not write that down like they said they thought I had pseudomonas but never wrote this down. Or is MSSA just as bad? Lots of questions, sorry.

Alex

Dear Alex , first of all i'd like to say .......great site Alex , very informative, i love the layout & enjoyed with great interest reading through it . now for your question .........I would also like to know if perhaps I had MRSA but they did not write that down like they said they thought I had pseudomonas but never wrote this down. i would say yes Alex , have you asked to view your medical records ? or have you already viewed them & noticed Pseudomonas was not in the records/notes either ? , i understand you on the being scared of the chances of getting re-infected Alex . what happens regarding your open wound at the moment (care wise ) ?

Thanks for the compliment! It is a release to write about it. As regards my wound - absolutely nothing. I cover it with a silver plaster everyday and wash with it off. The bone is exposed and it is getting bigger everyday. The bone underneath is now splintering, that happened a couple of days ago. I have no idea how big the piece of rotten bone is and I next see my plastic consultant on 25th March.

I haven't actively searched my records but was transferred out of one hospital to the infection control of another (great way to get rid of a patient) and saw that was under MSSA only.

I mentioned to infection control about the pseudomonas and they hadn't even been told about it and I am very sure that I had heard it as I was with my family when 2 consultants told me about it and we even asked them to repeat it as we had not understood it properly the first time.

Thank you for replying to me.

Dear Alex , i know when my partner had mrsa & c-diff i phoned infection control at the hospital , i felt my questions got answered by them more than the medical staff or consultant in the ward .every infection is logged or should be logged & comes up on computer . i remember i was phoning everyday to the consultant's secretary for an appointment with him & felt i was being fobbed off . one afternoon i went up to see my partner & John said the consultant had been in the ward in the morning & came into see him in his isolation room asking ((((((((why i was wanting an appointment with him , my partner replied ........probably to see what is wrong with me ! to this he answered .......and cant you tell your wife what's wrong with you !!!!!! i was soooooooom livid with the arrogance of the man .

Just looking at the rest of the site - when do the doctors let you know that once you have one of these infections they are very difficult, if not impossible to get rid of. I am not being negative just realistic. do they ever go away?

Where are you Linda? I am so annoyed. MSSA is so under-reported and as a serious infection it is underplayed. I got a letter from the DWP telling me that I was not ill today and they got that info from a doctor who isn't brave enough to give me a letter saying that I can travel! I will have to pay over £100 for insurance for a week in Mainland Spain under their NHS equivalent as a pre-existing condition. I am sooooo crosss - How can I be ill enough to have to pay for everything and yet not ill enough to be entitled to anything????? http://bugsdrugsandrocknroll.com/blog/ for the latest!

Dear Alex , im in Glasgow in Scotland , i read your lastest on your website & believe me when i say your not alone . there is many people disabled /mamied by hospital infections and cant get the DWP benefits they are entitled too . "WHY" because probably it would be an admittance to causing their disablement .........so your swept under the carpet ( a hidden victim) my mum was a hidden victim also, only she was not so lucky....... it killed her. dead hidden victims are covered up with not declaring the true cause of death on their death certificates . as for the perks of other people with diagnosis of illnesses/disablement Alex, some of them.... even get a raw deal here in the UK , and so does their carers . there is people out there working the system that are not as disabled /ill as they make out , and this affects the real ill/disabled , how on earth they pass the criteria stumps me......... because the genuine cases are not getting the help & support from our Government that they should be getting . that's a very good quote Alex ........How can I be ill enough to have to pay for everything and yet not ill enough to be entitled to anything????? you pay in all those years you worked hard for , in return you get absolutely ........NOTHING ! .
